Wherever you are musically, our teachers want to help you succeed. At Florence Music Academy you or your child will receive quality training in the instrument of your choice.
We offer one recital each May which any of our students may participate in. It is not required, by any means, however. Most of our teachers also offer two or three master classes per year in order to give their students ample time to perform in a more relaxed environment in front of their fellow students. This has the added advantage of hearing others play and offering (and receiving) constructive feedback from their peers and teacher.
We believe that everyone who enters our studio should be treated with dignity and respect. Our students are praised far more for their efforts than their ability. We always encourage our students to treat others with that same respect.
Our doors and lessons are always open for parents. Some teachers (especially of young children) may prefer parents attend lessons so they are better equipped to help with practice time at home. Some students may prefer parents to wait in the lobby. Whatever suits your situation the best is fine by us. Please know that you are always welcome to sit in on or observe a lesson.
Our teachers will be happy to meet with you before signing you or your child up for lessons. We understand that not only are you investing money, but you are investing time and trust in your teacher, so we want to make sure that the relationship fits well. Please contact any of our teachers to set up a “meet and greet” time at our studio.
We have found, and research has shown, that most very young children (under 7) struggle through private lessons. The half hour intense focus each week and the at home practice time is very difficult and frustrating for many youngsters. We have also found, however, that these same children flourish in an age appropriate music class. We strongly recommend young children attend our Musikgarten classes before signing up for private lessons. In our classes children jump, bounce, rock, play, sing, listen and have a blast. In the meantime, they are learning critical foundational skills, such as steady beat, pitch matching, audiation (internalizing the music), fine motor skills, listening skills, concentration and much, much more. Furthermore, because our classes are in a group setting, they are more affordable than private lessons, and there is no need invest in an instrument (yet!). Our private teachers love teaching our Musikgarten graduates, because they come to them so well prepared and experience much less frustration.
