Our Philosophy
- Everyone has an innate ability to create music.
- Music is valuable because of the performer. While it is wonderful to listen to a great performance, children will be recognized for their efforts more than their ability.
- Children should be given a strong foundation in the basics of their chosen instrument in order to succeed in the genre of their choice. A strong focus on classical and traditional repertoire is expected, but other repertoire will be introduced at the teacher’s discretion.
- Children have the greatest success in private lessons after their ears have been trained to listen, and their brains have been trained to think musically. Therefore, young children are best served by age appropriate music classes to prepare them for private lessons (up to age 7).
- Our teachers have a difficult, yet rewarding job. They should be treated with the respect and trust they deserve.
- Parents, especially of younger children, have the most influence over a child’s musical success. Parents are expected to oversee practice time at home, and to ensure good communication between the child’s teacher and the child.
